Prayers by Grade Level
The following page provides an overview of the basic prayers your child will encounter while in our program. Because each year builds on previously learned content, we have not included all prayers in every year. Please read this page in its entirety to get an overall sense of our program goals with regard to passing on the prayers of our faith.
For some prayers and devotions, like The Rosary, incorporation into the catechetical setting is gradual. The children are first introduced to the “concept” of the prayer. Then, over the course of their time in our program, this introduction provides the foundation upon which further examination and internalization occurs. This might sound a bit complex for “little children”-it is! Faith is both simple and complex. In the catechetical setting, however, everything is introduced and learned over time in developmentally appropriate ways.
While it is our goal that each child learn these prayers within the timeframes we have designated below, special accommodations will be made to children entering our program from other parishes or children with special needs or learning challenges. Please speak to your child’s Catechist or the Director of Children’s Ministry if you have any questions.

Responses to Prayers at Mass
Refer to Missalette
Act of Contrition
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In
hoosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I
have sinned against you, whom I should love
above all things. I firmly intend, with your
help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to
avoid whatever leads me to sin.
CCC 1451
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of
Your faithful, and enkindle in them
the fire of Your love. Send forth Your
Spirit and they shall be created, and
You shall renew the face of the earth.
Amen.
CCC 2671
Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator
of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His
only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
died, and was buried.
He descended into hell; on the third day He
rose again from the dead. He ascended into
heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the
Father almighty. From there He shall come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic
Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Rosary
CCC
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the
Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of
all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only
Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, one in
Being with the Father. Through Him all things
were made. For us men and for our salvation,
He came down from Heaven; (it is appropriate
to bow at this point) by the power of the Holy
Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and
became man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius
Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of
the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and
is seated at the right hand of the Father.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the
giver of life, who proceeds from the Father
and Son. With the Father and the Son he is
worshipped and glorified. He has spoken
through the Prophets. We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness
of sins. We look for the resurrection of the
dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
CCC pp. 49-50
Morning Offering
My God, I offer you my prayers,
works, joys and sufferings of this day
in union with the holy sacrifice of the
Mass throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions
of your Son’s Sacred Heart,
for the salvation of souls, reparation
for sin, and the reunion of Christians.
Amen.
Prayer Before Reconciliation
Come Holy Spirit,
give me Your light to see my sins,
and give me Your help to be sorry for them.
Show me why I sinned.
Help me never again to sin on purpose.
Prayer After Reconciliation
My Jesus, I thank You for washing away my
sins in Your Precious Blood.
Help me to accept my cross each day
and not to hurt You or others. I love You with
my whole heart and soul.

The Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary
CCC
Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one
God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became
man and died for our sins, and that he will come to
judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all
the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches,
because you have revealed them, who can neither
deceive nor be deceived.
Amen
Act of Hope
O my God, relying on your infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your grace
and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ,
my Lord and Redeemer.
Amen.
Act of Love
O my God, I love you above all things with my whole
heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of
all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of
you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon
of those whom I have injured.
Amen.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you we cry, the children of Eve;
to you we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this land of exile.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us;
lead us home at last
and show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus:
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

5th Grade, Post Sacraments
Tantum Ergo
With heads bowed let us now worship a sacrament so great;
And let the old teaching give way to the new;
Let faith reinforce our belief where the senses cannot.
To the Father and the Son let there be praise and jubilation,
Salvation, honor, virtue, and also blessing;
To the Holy Spirit let there be equal praise.
